AGS ROOF CLEANING EXPLAINED
When I visit for the first time to look at a prospective job I'm often faced with similar
questions..... I will try and answer those and provide a better understanding of the complete process
We clean roofs using specially designed cleaning attachments on telescopic long reach carbon fibre lances. These give a reach of up to 13meters allowing access to the roof area from the ground or an access tower removing the possibility of damage through physically working on the roof.
It is important to understand that the pressure we use is regulated and in the main is utilised to create lift for the lance, its attachment and the water running the full length inside. The lift allows control over the lance as an experienced operator can utilise the ''sweet spot'' where the lance becomes more or less weightless on the vertical axis.....similar to the principle of a hovercraft.
The main cleaning action is delivered from the water flow rate not from the amount of pressure applied.
Our commercial machines are tank fed and can process 21L of water per minute, the pressure is dissipated through 2 spinning jets set in a chosen fan pattern over a 12inch area. The jets are positioned safely from the roof by the body of the attachment and are designed to deliver at 90 degrees eliminating the possibility of water ingress.
Roof areas are treated with moss/algae prevention on completion. We use Algaeclear Pro...details available on internet. While prevention in terms of timescale is limited to 9 months as per manufacturer, this treatment will also kill off any remaining root growth which will in itself help greatly to increase the longevity for many moss free years.
Removing moss, dirt and lichens from the roof is only a part of the process. Downpipes are closed off prior to cleaning, creating a build up of debris in the gutters which will overspill to fascias, walls and to the ground. We sheet off any areas of grass, looose stone or chippings to prevent contamination and carry out a full ground clearance on completion removing all waste from site. Gutters are cleaned with a commercial camera controlled vacuum and we ensure all gutters and downpipes are running freely. All external gutters, fascias, pvc and walling are cleaned using a traffic film remover which can achieve fantastic results removing not only the dirt from cleaning but the build up of years of grime and staining..... white guttering and PVC shines again!
The result of experience coupled with the correct specially designed commercial equipment produces a safe, effective and controlled cleaning process which can bring even heavily contaminated roofs back to life!
Timescales
No two jobs are ever the same. The effective operation of equipment requires a 2nd man on the ground to adjust pressure settings and assist in changing attachments etc.... It is possible to clean alone however repeatedly climbing a scaffolding tower does not make for a cost effective job.
A semi detached would normally be completed in a day and a detached in 2 days.... That said, where possible we may work on, or call upon an extra body and machine to clear a detached in a day.
generally we operate on a 3-5 week order period during busy times of Spring & Summer.
We do not book back to back in order to allow for adverse weather causing a backlog and therefor may be able to fit a job in quicker from time to time.
We will operate to a degree in the rain.... showers are ok but with safety in mind i will not work or ask staff to work in conditions that would leave us cold and/or tired at height.
Our main adversary weather wise is wind, working at height with a fully extended lance in high winds is dangerous to both the operator and the property. Our insurance prevents work with wind speeds above 23mph.
Its not all negative...... It's a fantastic job in the summer sun and we do get a tremendous satisfaction transforming the aesthetic of your home!
